Meteorologist Bob Goosmann joins RE/MAX office in Mansfield
Bob Goosmann is just your typical Meteorologist-Realtor. The former television weatherman is like many Texans who have experienced a change in careers recently and the opportunity that it brings to try something new.
For Goosmann, that means continuing to serve the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex by forecasting the weather every morning from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. on local news radio station 1080 AM KRLD. But every day just before noon, he’s now available to deliver another kind of forecast – one that helps clients buy or market their home in a small community just south of Arlington at the real estate office RE/MAX Associates of Mansfield.
“My background was TV, the media, and as a trained meteorologist I assumed that is what I would always do,” Goosmann said. “Things were beginning to change, however, and it was becoming clear that my position would be minimized at best. For years, I wondered what I would ever do if I had to leave the TV business. It was a scary thought, because I did not think I could do anything else, TV weather was all I knew. Now here I am, less than six months later, still doing weather, but on radio, and a very promising career in the real estate business.”
Since joining RE/MAX Associates of Mansfield five months ago, Goosmann has already helped three clients and he has another closing due in a few weeks.
“I keep the radio personality aspect fairly low key, but when customers hear my name it usually comes up,” Goosmann said. “I know how important name identification can be in real estate, and because the two industries are compatible, it seems to be working. Based on the statistics I have read about first-year Realtors, I feel I am doing very well. I attribute that to being on a team and working closely with a team leader in the field every day.”
His interest in residential real estate arose from a necessity – Goosmann needed to sell his home. He called Dee Davey, Team Leader of the Dee Davey Team at RE/MAX Associates of Mansfield.
“When I sold my house in 36 days, I was impressed,” Goosmann said. “RE/MAX dominated the market in Mansfield and Dee Davey was a well-known name. That is why she was chosen to sell my house. When I considered pursuing a new career, she was the one person I chose to interview.”
At the time, Goosmann was still working in television and wasn’t sure if he could do both.
“Dee assured me, I could take the classes and learn the business until things changed,” Goosmann said. “That change came in August when I left the station and went into radio. I was very fortunate to be hired by KRLD, one of the top stations in the Metroplex. I am live on air each morning from 5 to 8 a.m. and my forecasts run all day … but this allows me to be in the office by noon.”
Being a local on-air celebrity doesn’t hurt Goosmann’s ability to connect to clients on a personal level.
“During a call I received a short while ago, I was discussing a property search with a client on the phone,” Goosmann said. “When we exchanged names, and I said, ‘Bob Goosmann,’ he said, ‘like the weather guy?’ and after, I said, “That’s me!” He said, I have a story for you. He went on to tell me that his daughter, who is now 22 years old, used to run to the TV back when she was about 5 or 6 years old and say ‘It’s weather time with Goosmann, it’s weather time with Goosmann!’ Stories like that make me feel really good. It means that maybe I did have an impact on some people’s lives.”
RE/MAX Associates of Mansfield is locally owned and operated by Jody Kautz, who also owns RE/MAX Associates of Arlington. RE/MAX Associates of Mansfield opened in 2001 and RE/MAX Associates of Arlington opened in 1998.
“I could not be happier with this situation,” Goosmann said. “Being with the top real estate company, being on air with the top radio station and being a part of a top producing team in a rapidly growing, extremely desirable city, is just about as good as it gets. I could not ask for more.”
